Back in September, when I was visiting my friend Christy in Portland, in addition to stopping by the Flock & Fiber Festival, I went to Farmhouse Knit Shop. I bought my first skein of Socks that Rock there a few years ago (before I even knew how to knit socks!). Love this store. The one skein of yarn that I purchased in September was a bit pricey, but well worth it. Blue Moon Fiber Arts De-Vine, 100% Merino Wool, Handpainted in the color Falcon's Eye (please don't ask me why I didn't think to take a picture of the skein before I knit it up!). So when Snowboarder requested another hat to match his green jacket and goggles, I thought this yarn would be perfect! However, it made it sooooooo hard to part with.
Introducing....

Great hat! Gonna have to make one :)
Just awesome! Thanks! Gorgeous green yarn! Hehe..um..Snowboarder is getting pretty famous now! ;)
Fantastic work! You are on a roll!
Oh gah, it's so pretty! I'm a sucker for cables and soft squishy yarn!
i'm pretty partial to green already, but that color is amazing!
Oh yes, the Falcon's Eye is pretty pretty. And the hat's look great. I love cables. :-)
Snowboarder's working that hat pretty good! Love both awesome hats.
I was so happy when BMFA put up Falcon's Eye on the website as I had been jonesing for it for awhile.
Wow, the two of you look incredibly cute with your rockin' hats! And I know what you mean about that colorway. Tina really is a genius when it comes to color, though I have to admit to being one of the people who can't get behind the Grinch socks. Not everyone's cup of tea, I guess.
Love your snowboarder hats! (and snowboarder's cute too!)
Love the hats! Snowboarders modeling days are coming in handy now! You should be selling this pattern, silly! Do you need a business manager? I am here to help! Beautiful Job!!!
I love love love these hats! I really want to knit one. Great modeling shots!
Great hat! That yarn looks like Malabrigo. Soft and squishy. yum!
Great hats! The light green colour really suits him.
Oh! I wish I had this pattern with the earflaps before I made the one below with them!! Okay on to another one! Thank you very much for the pattern. It's great! Love cables!
Both hats are phenomenal! I love that Aurora Bulky especially...
**drool** Must make cabled hat. Looks so very squishy and warm.
Snowboarder is rockin' that hat! It always makes a knitted gift more special when they appreciate it.
That hat is awesome! I have to must make one in Malabrigo Chunky for the store!
ALRIGHT!!! (APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE!) Awesome hat! Awesome pics! Awesome couple! Thanks for sharing your pattern!
The Falcon's Eye looks great with Snowboarder's gear!
I heart Faclon's eye! Great hat!! I think Mr. NK might have to have one of those, too!!!
I like the cables going all the way up the crown on your hat, too!
Lovely, lovely all around!!
Those hats are rad! Especially the one in Falcon's Eye!
Thanks for sharing your pattern, I just added it to my Ravelry queue.
Those are great hats! Check you out...you're a Ravelry Designer ;)
I don't make things for my man anymore, he always wants, I knit then he never wears them. Lucky you that your's will.
Awesome hat! Go you getting all designery on us!
Dang, girl! You got skills!
love love love these hats!
help!I am trying to follow this pattern but when attatching the earflaps and working the 1st row of the cable pattern across the 15 stitches there are always 3 stitches left? How many stitches in all around the hat with the earflaps atteched? This is suopposed to be a xmas gift, at this rate I may not get it done. Help!
What is the total stitch count for the base row of the hat? I am trying to resize it for a toddler (if I can manage) or my teenage step-daughter (who is on the petite side). I just want to make sure I have the correct stitch count so that I can try to make the necessary changes to obtain the gauge I need. Thanks!! LOVE LOVE LOVE these hats!!!
Hi Kris and Anonymous,
If you could include an email so that I have a way to contact you that would be helpful. Thanks!
Kris, I left a comment on your blog (last post in March). I believe the total is 84 stitches though.
totally cool, love the pictures, i'll have to give it a try! thanks for the freebie!
That is an Awesome hat, I'm a beginner at this. Is the Yarn something like this?

If not, and you see the yarn on this store I use, Camas Creek Yarn, can someone point it out, this is where I buy all my supplies, so it would be nice if they have it here, as its local to me.
Good Job!
Neill

Thank you!!! Silly me for not leaving an email to reply to! :) Now off to the store!
I love this hat! I have some great sparkly yarn that I would love to use, but it's a finer weight. Any ideas on how to modify this pattern to be used on size 5 knitting needles? (I'm new to knitting and this would be my first hat!)
making this tonight! what a cool hat - thank you!
not sure how to make the ear flaps work into the hat, please help! pattern says to do the first row of the pattern across the fifteen stitches of the second ear flap, but not to turn it, how do you do that if you don't turn it, and then it says to turn it and then cast on 33 more stitches. my gray matter may be too full of yarn stuff this late in the christmas season, but i have to make the hat for DD boyfriend, like, yesterday :S, please help!

Love, love, love this hat! I am a little better than beginner but fortunately have a mother-in-law to show me how to do this pattern justice if I mess up. I am making this hat for my snowboarding husband and I think he is going to totally love it. He'll definitely be the coolest out there. I am going to use the same yarn in a different color though - wouldn't want him to run into your model.... ;) Thanks again for the pattern!
Awesome!I finally found the snowboader hat pattern I was looking for and free, thanks. Can it be possible to use worst weight yarn and what size needles?
I am trying to follow this pattern but when attaching the earflaps and working the 1st row of the cable pattern across the 15 stitches there are always 3 stitches left? Cable pattern is for 12 sts. when all sts on needle and 2nd row of cable is worked the pattern is not right. please heeeeelp!

Hi "DM" I didn't have any contact info for you. Please note the changes to the pattern above that should answer your question. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
hi! i love this pattern and i'm working on it for my roommate--he's really into the braids, but i'm shaky on how to attach them? i know if they're 12 strands it can't just be the tail of the yarn...how did you do this? thanks!!!
