Best way to beat away the Monday blahs, well, other than counting down the number of sleeps until Stitches East, would be a contest, right?!
I've been meaning to give away a skein of Sock-a-licious and my Bellingrath Pattern for awhile now!
Kollage also donated a set of square DPNs and a clear project bag too!
The contest is easy....just leave a comment :) And if you having any thoughts on the following, that would be great too (you guys always have the best info/recommendations!)...
*favorite new-to-you blog of any kind
*favorite app for an Android phone (I've had the Sprint HTC EVO for a few months now and feel like I still don't know much about all the "extras")
*the "it" knitting pattern for the holidays or what you want to knit now!
*any other favorite you want to share
I'll announce a winner at the end of the week. In the meantime, don't forget about my pattern sale. Receive 20% off any of my individually sold patterns by using the coupon code stitcheseast from now until Nov.1.
And check back soon for the new patterns being released! It is going to be a great week here, I can feel it!
Happy Knitting!

Oooohhhh, am I the first comment?! My new favorite blog is my friend, Allison's blog: http://alliholtkamp.blogspot.com/. We live in the same town, have the same name and share the same love of all things yarn!
After a few years of knitting with semi-solids, my new favorite yarn is STR. It makes me feel wild about my sock knitting. Trust me, I have been "eyeing" your destash.
My new favorite blog is called Style Underdog, it is a style blog with the sassiest author.
P.S. Its my birthday today, and I am on a yarn diet.
I can't answer any of the questions since I follow the crowd on which blogs to read and haven't seen any new ones that I can recommend. However, that yarn (new to me) and the pattern (favoured on Rav) mean that I'm going to send some friends a link to your blog.
My new "must knit" is jared flood's Celes.
Hmm, the pattern I've seen the most talk about lately is Whippoorwill. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/whippoorwill
It's in quite a few queues and I've already bought it for after holiday knitting. Although, I guess if you're adventurous or quick you could knit it for the holidays!!! :)
I hope to see you at Stitches! If my calender stays as it is now, I may be able to come to the market for part of the day Friday :-) Anyhow, my favorite app for my droid is Mancala. I play it all the time while I'm sitting waiting somewhere. And I think I'm going to be knitting a few of these http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-noble-cowl for gifts this year.
Personally, I find blogs all the time but I can't remember the last "new" blog I discovered, besides Brooklyn Tweed...which, in my defense, I had heard about, just not linked to.
But, as far as things I want to make NOW go...I have a bug in my pants to make another sweater. I don't know why. Nesting? Winter weather? No idea...
Wow- yum- I have an iPhone so can't help you there- I just started to crochet and found Attic 24 very pretty. also I am making a ton of coffee cozies this christmas as little package toppers etc.
Thanks for having a giveaway! The pattern I am dying to knit right now is the Dark & Stormy cardigan - just got my yarn in the mail but I have several things to finish before I cast on. And I hope you get some good comments on Android apps - I got an Incredible a few weeks ago and I still don't know much about it!
Thank you for this opportunity! I've been wanting to make your Bellingrath for the holidays. My favorite "new" blog is redheadwriting.com. Erika is NOT for the faint-of-heart, but definitely tells it like it is. Enjoy!
I'm a pretty basic girl, but my next knit is a sleeved wrap from Simple Style. It will give me a chance to learn how to knit cables.
And that yarn is pretty!
Android Apps:
Astrid Tasks- Best checklist app ever!!! It not only lets you prioritize, but you can set reminders, have it link to your Google calender and more (it's been a life saver)
Pandora- For those times you don't have your ipod and just want some tunes.
TallyBee- Pretty simple app that replaces the standard row counter when knitting/crocheting.
Handcent SMS- Replaces the existing messaging app. Allows you to personalize each contact, and my fav... it will notify you of texts while you're on the phone!! For some reason Android left that capability out of their standard settings.
My favorite app is foursquare. I love winning the badges.
Hoping to meet you at Stitches and get you to sign my favorite sock pattern- Slip Jig! I've got a serious sweater-knitting thing going on right now, and am just aching to get started on something for NaKniSweMo. Can't decide what though!
My favorite new pattern is the Winthrop cardi from Kelbourne Woolens. It's a simple knit but has really pretty slipped stitch details around the cuffs and yoke. I can't believe more folks aren't knitting it! I'm a slow cardi knitter but I'm shooting to finish mine before Thanksgiving.
Yours is my new favourite blog, I just found you via a 'recommend a knitting blog' post on Ravelry:)
Oooh! Enter me! I don't know what the "it" pattern is, but I can tell you what my fingers have been itching to knit- those little penguins and polar bears from the new Webs cover, and the Back to School U-Neck Vest from Fitted Knits.
Hmmm...Got an error message with my first attempt. Excuse the second post if the first one show up. I have been eyeing all the Nutkins on ravelry's socktoberfest group. I think my mom would love a pair for the holiday.
Who doesn't love a contest that includes free yarn?
I'm making yarn harlot's one row scarf, it's so quick and easy. Loving it for tv knitting and it's knitting up quick enough that I should have plenty of time to make one more before Christmas for gifts. (I'm a wicked slow knitter)
Thanks for this contest. I am looking forward to making a bunch of French Press Knits slippers for Christmas gifts this year.
A new to me blog would be Tanis Fiber Arts. Her yarns are amazing. Her blog is enjoyable. I don't have the cool App Phone, so unfortunately no help there. I do enjoy Scrabble on my Ipad though. and my Kindle app. I am currently working on a Mara Shawl, and when I finish I have lots of socks I want to make. Maybe a lacy baktus. And another shawl called Fog Lifter. I am sort of on knitting overload. My fingers can't keep up with my brain on what I want to knit.
I've been adding new blogs so quickly right now that it's hard to pick a favorite.
This is a fantastic giveaway!
That sock yarn is beautiful! Who does not love a great sock yarn in the middle of fall. The constant trying it on and watching it get bigger in yout warm little hands as you knit and watch a movie. I love Fall!!!
Stephanie~
My favourite new blog to read is a cooking blog: http://picky-palate.com/
I like her blog because the recipes aren't complicated, and she has two children, so many of her recipes are geared toward what kids might want to eat.
I added a new blog to my reader on Friday, but alas, I cannot recall the name.
I'm loving the laceweight cardigans, but I have knitter's ADD right now and can't seem to finish anything but hats.
I don't have a cell phone so can't comment on the app..but I do love the new pattern Watershed by Amy Swenson..I want to knit 2 for Christmas.
I am searching blogs for spinning content..so could use a link if anyone has any...
Val
(dispatcherval)
ps; I don't have any of the accounts that they talk about at the bottom so will pick anonymous.
I have roughly four sweaters-for-me that are on my MUST KNIT NOW list (I started this autumn with one & haven't knit any yet just so you know how pathetic my output is). My most recent addition to the list is Kate Davies "Deco." Though at least with that one I can say that I'm waiting for the pattern!
Happy Stitches East to you. Enjoy.
Can we do a blog I've started loving recently, not about knitting, but about books?
http://littlebookish.blogspot.com/ and I don't have an android, so I'll skip that one. Pattern I most want to knit asap? Your new scarf!!
That is a great shawl pattern and a beautiful skein of yarn! Thanks for an awesome giveaway!
Super yarn! Thanks for sharing!
*favorite new-to-you blog of any kind
http://eternal-arts-n-crafts.blogspot.com/
*the "it" knitting pattern for the holidays or what you want to knit now!
http://www.knotions.com/issues/winter_2008/patterns/fence/directions.aspx
Oh - very pretty yarn and pattern. I Love that you count trips in "sleeps until."
Knitting - I'm designing right now! ACK! I'm in a sweater mode but that's not what I'm knitting. How does that work?
Blogs - I try to limit my puter time and have scaled way, way back. g
Lovely pattern!
New to me blog that I love:
www.foodinjars.com
It pattern for Christmas (so declared by my sister): Beaumont
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beaumont-tam
Oh goody!! I need to fight the Monday blahs, too...this sounds like the perfect way!!
No smart phone...so no app recommendations. No new blogs to think of (I really need to get out more!). I don't know what the "it" pattern is, but I have a bee in my bonnet to knit the Annis scarf with beads instead of nupps.
Oh, enter me please! Lovely pattern & yarny goodness!
Fun new to me blog:
http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/
I just love their crafts & fun photos.
What a generous contest! I am still giggling over the panopticon's latest post http://the-panopticon.blogspot.com/
Oh, I'll bite. I haven't been around lately, either commenting OR blogging, and it's sad. I'm miss you guys. :(
ANYway, I haven't been around because I'm deep in the throws of thesis-writing, and I should be done soon. Waiting for me at the end is a gorgeous pile of Manos silky blend and Hannah Fettig's latest sweater pattern, the Effortless Cardigan. It will be a lovely treat for me, I think.
Lovely yarn and lovely pattern!
My newest interesting blog is http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com/
I've been quite into making bread lately, and love all the suggestions from the authors of the cookbook that got me back into bread.
Knit on!
I'm making 'Knucks' and 'Koolhaas' hats as gifts, but I don't know how many I will get done. Christmas is sneaking up on me. Thanks for hosting the contest!
I love the color of the sock yarn! What is the thing to knit for the holidays? I am thinking the Brambles Beret from Knitty. Who doesn't have a skein of 220 hanging around and a person to knit for?! My new favorite thing to eat...a huge bag of Kettle Corn from Costco that disappears like a small bag :) It is crack in a popcorn bag.
Carrie, thanks so much for the discount! I've just used it.
Best android app? NESOID play old school games on your phone for only 3.99! Wohoo. DH wastes way too much time with this.
My favorite "go to" pattern for holiday knitting is the Gloria Cowl by Orinda5 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/orinda5/2131384346/). Just hold two strands of sock yarn together, and pretty soon you have a gift.
Awesome contest!
My favorite new blog is Angry Chicken.
The pattern I wanted to start yesterday is the Bird In Hand mitten pattern.
My favorite yarn is Impulse of Delight.
Oh, that yarn is the best color in the world!
As far as Droid apps. My fav is sticky notes. I use it to remind myself what row I'm at on my knitting projects :)
A favorite blog, well, I have a google reader addiction and I recently discovered your blog through their recommendations.
I want a Droid!
Beautiful yarn..!
Your blog is new to me..
I wish I knew the name, but last week I happened upon a friend with an app for analyzing thread! She could figure the amount of twist, and then we could closely estimate the thread weight (right word?) The thread band said it was a superfine alpaca in a sport weight but we found it to be more DK. And I could drop down in needle size and have enough for socks. I want the app. And, if I win, I will get the name of the app for you!:^)
I like brooklyn tweed's blog- I know its been around forever but I discovered it when I was checking out one of his patterns
I like the sticky notes app.
my favorite pattern is the Icord Baby hat as I learn how to do an Icord for my grandson's hat
fingerless mitts are my gift to give this season
I really enjoy your blog. Thanks so much. I think the bellingrath is lovely. I also read windrosefiberstudio.blogspot.com
I am wanting to start some South Fork socks and maybe Syvia Harding's Tallulah socks.
I love reading your blog!
oooh! pretty! love the looks of that lacy shawl!
For me right now i am on the quest for the perfect everyday cardigan. Have 2 in mind, the traveling sweater and a new freebie lion brand sent out last week.... love them both but looking for a deal on yarn.
Can't believe the holidays are so close already, i best get busy!
I can't wait for the pattern for the Common Ground hooded cardi to come out!
http://thebrownstitch.com/2010/10/fall-designssneak-peek.html
Hi there
Can I comment on 2 blogs? One of my favourites is 100% rain - the patterns are amazing and I am doing the Mystery Sock 2010 KAL on Through the Loops which is great too!
Have a good day
Traci (down under)
Oooh, I love the color of the yarn! I've been wanting to try it for some time now but haven't had the chance yet. I'd love to give it a whirl on your beautiful shawl!
While your blog is my most recent fave, I also luvinthemommyhood.com!
I don't have a particular must knit at the moment...I have umpteen of them!! ;-)
Thanks so much!!
Purlygig on Rav
I haven't found any new blogs lately, but the new KnitWits podcast is hilarious! And I've really been wanting to cast on Pogona by Stephen West. Need to get a few more Christmas presents done first though!
Oooo pick me! Beautiful pattern and gorgeous yarn. :) As for knitting this season...I'm dying to start some new sweaters. However, I've already got 3 on the needles so I better finish those first!
I would love a chance to win~ Just today I received a skein of Zen Yarn Garden's Serenity Silk (from Canada) to knit Rosemary Hill's newest shawl, "Elektra". Thanks for entering my name....
Have fun at Stitches Carrie! Right now I'm knitting up Kirsten Kapur's Wood Hollow Mittens in Dream in Color Classy Grey Tabby. The yarn is so luscious and the cables really pop!
I would love to win Bellingrath and a skein of Sock-a-licious. I purchased a set of the square dpns at Rhinebeck this year. Can't wait to try them. Thank you for the contest!
My favorite blog is The Yarn Harlot (she makes me smile). My new "must knit" is Moonstruck (blue moon website).
I'd love to win the pattern and yarn! My favorite (non-knitting) blog is The Smitten Kitchen, and you are my new favorite knitting blog!
Great giveaway!! I am planning on knitting a Sagano Shawl as one of my Christmas gifts!!
New to me blog? I love Neuroknitter's (Rav) blog, http://weheartyarn.blogspot.com/ . Also Vegan Dad, http://vegandad.blogspot.com/
And for Christmas? I am knitting Vilai for my Momma. I had made her some Skews and they ended up WAAAYY to big...So the "origami moment" socks went to a girlfriend with larger feet :)
I don't know about Android, but Angry Birds is the most addicting. app. ever. Sudoku2 is another fun one. All these I play on my iPod touch, while I wait patiently for Christmas and hope Santa brings me an iPhone. ;)
I love the pattern and the yarn color is intriguing. My favorite Droid app - Word Feud. The free version of scrabble.
New must knit - some kind of cowl in soft yarn. Still thinking about my choices. Winter is on the way.
Beautiful combination of Pattern and Yarn! I'd love to win.
I enjoy the Sticks and Strings podcast...it is put together by an Aussie Bloke (guy) :) who is a knitter :D (sticksandstrings.com)
I think my next large knitting project will be a sweater for my hubby. It needs cables!
I read a million blogs and couldn't pick one! What do I want to be knitting? Anything but the never ending Christening shawl I am working on at the moment!
Imagine that...just the package I have planned to purchase att Stitches!
Favorite new app! Easy. Peapod. Yup, I can order groceries from my phone and have them delivered! BEST thing ever!
See you on Friday my friend!
I love my Android! I have a bunch of favorite apps - but my newest favorite is the retro camera app. It takes photos and makes them look like they were taken with old photos. The program tells you what effects you'll get with the different cameras available and what they are best used for. And - there's a free version!
-favorite new to me blog is "The Knitting Wannabe" - too funny!
-don't have a smart phone so don't have a favorite app, but if I did it would be an app to find the nearest Starbucks where-ever I am.
-favorite yarn is some locally "grown", spun and dyed wool blends

Newest blog I've been reading? That would have to be Lilith Saintcrow's site. Most of her posts have to do with the daily nuts and bolts of being a consistent writer and her experiences as a published author.
As for the cell phone apps? I'm still in the stone age with mine (I can text!) but at least I can contact folks while away from home.
Pattern-wise, I'm still working my way through a pair of Uncle Frank socks. Two more cable repeats and I'll be to the heel turn!
The Pioneer Woman's blog is something new to me. I must have read back over months of old posts and it is just awesome. I think if Ree was a knitter - she'd be kick-ass at it. Check out her recipe for cinnamon rolls - I must try that in this lifetime.
My new favorite blog is from a local girl with a really quick wit and fantastic knitting projects. Her blog is drivebythinking.typepad.com.
But the newest 'must knit' is the one I am working on the Mariner Pullover in IK Weekend Knits for this fall. It is really a great pattern and I am knitting it in STR Heavyweight In the Navy. I am loving it.
My favourite blog is my friend's reading blog. She writes reviews of books on her blog "The Dog-Eared Soul". She has the best book recommendations!
Trying to get 2 more pairs of socks, a scarf & a hat done for Christmas.
deni
I love the color of that yarn, and I love learning about new blogs. Thanks for doing that!
My latest knit was the Carnaby skirt from the latest edition of knitty.com. I think it will be so cute with tights and riding boots.
knittoday(at)hotmail(dot)com
Favorite new to me blog: http://goknitinyourhat.blogspot.com/
Popular Holiday pattern has to be http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sockhead-hat (the sockhead hat) a pattern which I actually first noticed on TurtleGirl's wonderful blog (though not new to me, longtime lurker) http://turtlegirl76.com/
My new favorite yarn still is String Theory Colorworks Continuum self striping yarn -- nice thick stripes AND she does custom orders :)
Hopefully the link will work.
What beautiful yarn and pattern, a new to you blog would be a friend to knit with..which I wish I had in real life.
I am finally learning to do cables and lace on socks and mittens. I have a great love of Cookie A patterns. For Christmas--shawlettes for the girls and balaclavas for the boys. I like the pattern you are giving away, and will always be interested in yarn!!!
What a lovely give away!
I am currently loving The Salvage sisters at: http://salvagesisters.wordpress.com/
and the story of a girl from NC, my home state, living in England at:
http://greatsmitten.com/
What a great giveaway!!! What I want to knit now: A swingy sweater for myself in black for the office. No pattern located yet and besides, I have to finish my daughter's sweater first.
Love those colors! I've been enjoying reading http://tippytoediet.com/ from a woman who lost over 100lbs without doing some crazy diet thing. She's not a knitter but perhaps we can persuade her...
Love the color of that yarn! I have the HTC Eris...my fav apps are Jewels, Pandora and Stitcher (for podcasts)
Android apps! There are a bunch of good ones, and I haven't paid for a single one. I love the Angry Birds game, Google voice is probably my favorite app (I didn't really 'get' it at first, you just have to start using it to appreciate it). Retro camera is pretty cool too.
YAY Bellingrath! One of my favorite blogs is Oiyi's Crafts - oiyi.blogspot.com. Her new shawl is gorgeous!
I haven't found any new blogs for a while, have just been reading my favorites. With winter coming on and more "inside" time, I'll be looking for new ones. I'm going to read all the comments on this post for inspiration!
Although I love your patterns, I am not (yet) a sock knitter, so I mostly just drool over what you have designed. But I do knit scarves and shawls, and I have loved this pattern since you first introduced it. I would LOVE to win the yarn and pattern and get started making one for myself!
another day, another entry... is that okay? I am absolutely in love with your new pont neuf cowl. As soon as I finish the current round of birthday and Christmas gifts, it is going on my needles!
My new favourite blog is The more the messier by the Suburban Correspondent (http://www.suburbancorrespondent.blogspot.com/)
I know it's not new, and I don't know where I have been - but I love her observations.....
Another great give-away Carrie - thanks!
1. I am really loving Tanis Fiber Arts blog tanisfiberarts.blogspot.com
2. I don't have an Android phone. :o( I have to admit I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to do with an AP.
3. I am really dying to knit a sweater of any kind, which would be my first. But I will have to wait until the beginning of the year, I just have too many UFO's to tidy up.
A fun sock pattern is Cookie A's Summer Sox socks. I made the for my niece for Christmas in her favorite yellow. They go up to 80 stitches, down to 50 and back up again. And I'm all set to start Anne Hansen's Pea Vines shawl once I finish some wip's.
I love the sockalicious yarn. Made my granddaughter a really cute pair of socks with it . . .
New to me blog is 101cookbooks.com. Yum!
Hello, I'm still relatively new to knitting. I discovered your blog from a friend and I must say how much I LOVE your blog! I am currently knitting a free pattern I picked up at (gulp) Hobby Lobby and I actually managed to finish ONE of the fingerless glove but am having the MOST difficult time finishing the second one. The way they did the right hand is different from the way they are doing the left hand. Anyhow, i've ripped it out a dozen times already but I am determined to figure it out and finish it! If I won your pattern and the yarn, it would be a nice project to look forward to making next! ;-)
A blog that I really like is:
http://natalieservant.ca/blog/
Natalie designs gorgeous shawls! And, in June I started knitting shawls and am addicted...
I just discovered Regretsy.com, and I'm obsessed. It's not a knitting blog, but it's hilarious.
Also, I'm in love with the patterns in the new Berroco book, 303 Remix. I'm pretty sure my sister's getting the purse and someone's getting an adorable baby sweater.
My current "want to knit" ... the Central Park hoodie, but without a hood.
However. I have to finish two more scarves for the Orphan Foundation. AND I just picked up five skeins of Cascade superwash to make hats for Navy personnel on the Decatur. Both have deadlines looming...
can't think of any "new" favorite blogs, but I'm seeing lots in the other comments that I think I might need to check out!
Gwen
Just realised that in my last comment I raved about the pont neuf cowl, and I do like it. But what I'm actually in love with and can't wait to cast on (just have to get all those pesky Christmas presents out of the way) is the infinity scarf!
And again, this is such a lovely giveaway!
I love the new patterns! Especially Pont Neuf, the infinity cowl version. My "have to knit" right now is definitely the Austin hoodie - I can see the pattern winking at me, but I have to relocate the yarn I bought for it when I shoved it all in the closet for parental visitation...
The newest to me blog is smitten kitchen. I love the story writing that goes with the recipes. Yours is also a new to me blog. I love the way that knitters can express their passion for yarn and knitting in writing and in photos. It is so inspiring.
Sabina
I LURVE that colour! One entry for the contest, please!
