Help!!

Happy Monday everyone!! I miss y'all!! I'm in the midst of holiday knitting and need some help...

How the heck do I keep this here blog interesting for the next few weeks while I knit away frantically on the Christmas gifts?? Unlike years past, my gift receivers are getting sneaky and checking the blog more frequently?! WTF?!?? I thought I was safe casting on that cute little toe last week as my sister has not checked out the blog in awhile...and then that day she comments?!?! Don't worry, that sock is now dedicated to someone else!

So....let's have a little contest, shall we? I know that's one way to keep this here blog interesting. The prize. Sock yarn. Not sock yarn that rocks as I'm saving that for my upcoming blogiversary, but pretty pretty sock yarn nonetheless.

Here are the rules:

Leave me at least one fabulous idea of how to keep the blog interesting for the next four weeks! And leave a favorite blog that you enjoy reading (you know, when you get bored with this one....hehehehehe hopefully not).

I'll pick a winner Wednesday night, when I'm hoping to at least post pictures of the scarf that I'm working on for Dad. Its his Father's Day gift (from last June?!).

In the meantime....look at this pretty Miss Babs Yummy Sock yarn that Zknitter surprised me with! I have the best knitty friends!!

Miss Babs Yummy

Note: This is soooo not the prize. Its mine. Even my sister tried to steal it for her socks. But this pretty is mine, all mine :)

Happy Contest!!

xoxo Irishgirlieknits

Close-ups. Extreme close-ups, so no one can tell what you're making, but we can still appreciate the colors of the yarn, and the stitch patterns.

Here's a blog that has great close-ups! I've been wondering what kind of camera she's using...

Just show us new yarn that you've added to your stash, or yarn that you've seen elsewhere. Oh, and put in a link to the yarn. We'll be so busy looking at new yarn, we won't notice you're not showing us your knitting!

I like reading Not So Fancy Nancy at http://craftywench.typepad.com/knittingwench/

OOOHHH!! Add me to the list of folks who want to steal your beautiful green yarn. It's just my color, really. :-) To keep things interesting around here while not giving away your gift knitting, show us (or tell us)your yummy holiday goodies. You always have the BEST cupcakes.

Damn, I was really hoping that was the prize :) I agree with the 'get arty with your photos' comments, and the yarn. What about some scenic photos of life somewhere warmer than here?

Then go visit my friend Aileen, at http://www.knittingneels.com/

I think you should find knitterly jokes to tell us about, and then photograph some stash. I myself, wouldn't mind seeing your Blue Moon stash!
Blogs I love to read....too many to count, and you probably read them all anyway!
The Yarn Harlot (www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/) is always a good read

Wow, that green is gorgeous!!! Let's see, if you pick some random topic and post about that or different pictures. Let's say you choose garden gnomes. You could find them in your travels, take pictures and have gnome postings. Now this is just a wierd little example but you can do this with anything...
As for a blog I like to read (other than this one obviously) I like http://www.jessaluknits.com/

I'd love to hear about your favorite holiday traditions!! It will probably make you & your family feel warm & fuzzy too...just like all that knitting we won't get to see!! LOL! Another blog I enjoy is
www.thepioneerwoman.com

Yep, I'm going to have the same issue! Darn sneaky people! :D

I say more puppy pictures! :D And close up of projects without knowing what they are.

2 blogs I like that you might not already read:
http://shutupimcounting.wordpress.com/
and
http://pdx-princess.blogspot.com/

Have fun!

I say pose your censored knits in various locales around where you live....

I love seeing your puppies so I would more pictures of them. I also love knitting blogs that revisit some of their previous projects because I like seeing how they're holding up and sometimes I haven't seen them (they blogged about them before I became a reader).

It's not a knitting blog but www.thepioneerwoman.com is a good way for me to waste time!

OMG, Zonda's yarn!!!!!! The perfect green/grey. Swoon.

OK, I love the idea of extreme closeups of your holiday knits.

Also, I don't recall seeing the whole stash of yarn you got when you went up to see Christie last time. Don't be bashful ;0)

Definitely more puppy pics.

And how about a picture of Rowan's pink and cream scarf - it is finished by now, right?!

Maybe even a post from Rowan herself? A little flash of her stash?

What books (knitting or otherwise) did you buy/read lately?

And how about a picture of that snowboarder? We haven't seen him in a while. And that brother of yours.....

Show us another picture of the craft room - is it still sparkly and tidy, or have things been sliding a bit?

How's that for a few ideas? Big hugs xxx

Don't enter me in your contest, but - uh, Bailey and Puddles, duh! You can NEVER have too many cute puppy pictures to keep a blog entertaining :) Sorry about your nosy giftees. Tell them if they snoop they lose the gift :)

My favorite blog for a laugh is http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/

I think you should blog about not having anything to blog about.

Then blog about the fact that you're blogging about not having anything to blog about.

Then get crazy and blog about the blogging about blogging about not having anything to blog about.

By then everyone will be so confused, probably including you, that they won't notice that you're not blogging about knitting. Then it's Christmas! Hooray!

Okay, seriously. I'm having this problem too. I was thinking about posting some out-of-focus pictures, but that will most likely just cause headaches. So I vote puppies. Puppies are always good.

Oh, I have LOTS of ideas! Ready?
You could focus on the yarn and colorway so we don't know what you are knitting--just what you are knitting with. You could do features of different favorites that you have--like blogs, indy yarn dyers, patterns that you made lots of, yarn stores, podcasts, books, etc. Kind of like a review or critique, but emphasizing the positive and why you love it. You could run re-runs of projects from long ago and post about making them, but then give a re-cap of their life since you made them. Like how it held up, how it was used or not, etc. Considering all of my ideas, you would think I could update my blog more often! :)

For blogs I love the big name ones like Yarn Harlot, Mason Dixon, Knit and Tonic, Susan B Anderson, Betz White. But there are lots of others too that I read all the time One More Row, Nutmeg Knitter, Sheep in the City, Saratoga Knitting.

Yeah, secret holiday knitting can really put a damper on blogging. How about showing pre-blog FOs? Or reviewing knitting books or yarns? Posting recipes?

AmyT said...

What about blogging about some of your previous Holiday Knitting? Give the rest of us ideas and updates about projects that have stood the test of time. One of my favorite to read is knittingunderway@blogspot.com
She does a fun time capsule thing where she posts about preblogging projects.
I enjoy reading book and pattern reveiws as well.
Good luck with the holiday knitting!!

Tell us your favorite things about the holidays. All holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, New Years, etc! I love hearing what people think about different holidays!

Oops. I forgot to tell you a great place to hang out online. Check out Channon and her pups (she knits, too).

Post pictures with short description of what you are knitting and include new items to your stash. I love watching other people works in progress and new yarn.
A couple of my favorite blogs are http://maine-island-knits.blogspot.com/ and http://lovincomfortknits.blogspot.com/
And I think the pix of the sock yarn should be a prize, it is gorgeouos!

Three words--belly dancing pictures.
(lol, just kidding ;) )

I agree, more puppy pictures, and pictures of yarn are always good.

For non-knitting entertainment, I like to visit http://cuteoverload.com or other cute animal blogs like this one, featuring a box-loving japanese kitty: http://sisinmaru.blog17.fc2.com/

I think you should blog about your inner most thoughts and personal secrets. Just kidding! Anything you do is interesting!!!

For non-knitting blog cotton candy, I read Project Rungay:

Creative stash pics would be fun. Or you could throw the puppies and the stash together for maximum happy-sigh-factor photos. I guess this depends on how damaging the dogs could be to the stash, though!

Maybe also sharing some yummy holiday recipes that you like as well?

Unknown said...

Maybe you could photoshop the pictures to make them crazy looking. Different colors and maybe blurry ones. Might be kind of fun.

Unknown said...

You could go black & white when you don't want anyone to know what colorway you're using. Gail takes awesome close-up/macro shots of her projects, so you couldn't go wrong there.

As for blogs to read, I love my friend's blog:
http://homeonderange.blogspot.com/

And Cleolinda always cracks me up, especially with her Twilight recaps:

More about you. I always like to see pictures of people's work space and where they blog from.

Whatcha doing for Thanksgiving? Any good traditions or recipes to share?

What do you want for Christmas? Maybe that will help us find gifts for someone else?

How and where do you store all that stash? Anything else you like to stash?

Read any good books lately?

Learn any new techniques or tips while you're doing all that knitting?

Christmas decorating, traditions, parties, recipes?

Puppy pics are always good too.

And now you know what I'll be talking about on my blog :)

I'd like to hear some random things about you, or some of your favorite books, and I like the previous idea of taking close up pictures of projects - keep those guessers guessing! And blogs I like to read...I like so many but I have found this one interesting - sad, sweet and everything in between...http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/

Do you have any old FOs from before you started blogging? If so, you could do a post for each one.

Penny Karma is one of my favorite blogs - gets me laughing every time.

Each week tell us one thing that was important to you as a child - whether it be an object, a belief, a person - and how that thing reflects on you now as an adult.

Taking a picture and only showing it in black or white takes some of the fun and guesswork out of the picture for an intended recipient. I've got the same dilemma. I enjoy reading Cake Wrecks... completely non-knitting.

RisaJ said...

I would agree with close ups...keep us guessing....

I'm also going to suggest to blog about family and friends until the holidays is over.

Here is a blog I enjoy..

well, I'm a day late and a dollar short as usual, but I agree with pdxknitterati. Extreme closeups of the stitches. Keep us all guessing.

I'm always up for a couple of cute puppy shots thrown in too!

I like when you can see the yarn and maybe needles but you cannot tell what it is, traditions you had, how they started and maybe a picture of when you were a wee one. I am sure you have knitted something that has never made it to the blog, now is the time..there are also a lot of web sites right now you could mention that just for someone clicking and showing up gives money. thebreastcancersite.com, has other pages where you can click, the hunger site, the literacy site, rainforest site. Also you could do a post on the Marines Toys for tot's drive...

Spinning Ninny said...

I think that you should definitely consider doing close ups, pictures of yarn to be used in gifts - and who doesn't love pictures of you surrounded by STR! You could also do a meme or two - looks like you've got enough readers to go around!

And lastly, two good blogs:

She's an amazing artist, loves to sew, embroider, knit and paint.

I forgot to leave a favorite blog in my last comment! I love the photos on http://weheartyarn.blogspot.com. I also like reading Lene's blog at http://www.lenealve.blogspot.com/...it's especially fun hearing about the weather way up north in Finland this time of year!
