The Whole Truth

And nothing but the truth.

Seriously.

Let's talk UFOs.

Over on Twitter, a few of my smackdown peeps have been talking about a UFO smackdown. I thought, well, sure, but I only have 4 WIPs on my ravelry project page. I'm doing pretty well. Oh, how quickly one forgets.

IMG_2553

These are all the ones in my drawers. Forgotten. Not added to ravelry (so in a way, they didn't exist). Time to get real.

IMG_2554

The February Lady Sweater I cast on right before Stitches West in February. I didn't like my button hole and so I stopped there.

IMG_2555

This was my original test knit of the Courage sock pattern. In the gorgeous Oregon Red Honey Clover colorway of STR.

There is another design in progress hiding in one of those project bags, but I can't show you that.

Now the next two. Well, I just started them, but they weren't added to my project page. So, again, the whole truth.

IMG_2560

A sport weight version of the Merrily pattern :) (or maybe Merrily Merrily). In Mama Blue. Swoooooooooon. This one will be done soon.

IMG_2557

Another Koolhaas for Snowboarder's brother-in-law. Snowboarder was bragging and asked me to make him one. Ugh. But note the pretty project bags from Piddleloop (they were my Christmas pressie to me!).

IMG_2558

Well, this was just beginning to be a Goody Goody sock, but let's get real. I haven't touched it since 2008.

IMG_2559

It now looks like this. I'm sure I'll get around to it, but why have it filling up a cute project bag (this one from Zknitter!) and needles!

Now this next UFO. Well, its probably my favorite. I haven't touched it in a long time. My Tickled Pink Blanket that Rocks!

IMG_2561

I'm hoping the fabulous new Signature Circular Needles will help me finish this baby up!

So total UFOs....nine! Let's change that!

How many do you have??

Happy Diving-into-the-back-of-the-closet-to-find-the-UFOs-Day!
xoxo Irishgirlieknits

ETA: Crap. Found one more. This one. Tuscany shawl. It was on my ravelry project page doing this zzzzzzzz hehehe. Hmmm. I can't bear to frog this, but don't see it being worked on soon. I guess this is where the UFO smackdown comes in.

Ughh. I'm in the process now of going through everything that hasn't quite made it yet. Soooo much stuff. Al in all, though, I think I'm in better shape than last year.

Not too bad! Drooling over your Signature circular needle though. Anxious to hear how knitting with it goes :) I may count up mine ;) Kinda freeing to frog that lone wee cuff though huh!

"How many do you have??"--oh, you did NOT ask that?! Shamefully way more than you have! So many I can't count them all! Right now I have three lined up for immediate UFO Smackdown progress, but many more to move on. I have to break it down into small increments or I'll lose focus and not get any done. Must say I love the look of those Signtaure needles, too!

This is a timely post for me - I just frogged a long-suffering BSJ! I have three socks in various stages of finishing and a half-finished Clapotis on the needles. That's it! Any more WIPs and I get overwhelmed.

Are you sure you dug deep enough? I know I have way more than that and just in socks. I need to go diving to find all of mine and maybe I'll report back on numbers. (and get some projects/stash up on Ravelry.) As it is I'll be glad to be caught up on club kits before the new ones start arriving. Back to Rogue Roses and the gusset of the second sock. Alice

Ugh....seven that are on my Rav page, but I wonder how many others lurk in dark spaces, which I have forgotten about! Why, oh why, did you have to make me face this?

You just had to do it, huh? Give other knitters a reality check? Well, I totally agree with you! Why lie to ourselves about UFOs when we do so much of that about the actual size of our stash?

Hmm, I'll be digging the closets and bags later tonight. Grant me courage....

I'll be ordering those Signature circs as soon as they have the 2.5s!

I will admit to 10 UFOs; my Ravelry queue has a few more but they'll be ripped out. I'm trying to finish at least one by the end of the year! So your 6 should be done soon, right?!

I've got one...well ok, that I've ignored. Three if you count the two active wips I'm working on.

Love your bags!

Nine isn't bad at all! I have a friend who probably has 50+. For me, about 4 or 5 is all I'm comfortable with. I do have a couple of things that I need to quite denying about and just frog.

Sorry! I had to laugh at the finding of another UFO at the end of the list. I am sure mine would be like that as well if I excavated my yarn corner.

OK, that's a lot of WIPs, but... some of them are halfway there! I'm seeing 2 single socks, those should go fast. And you've already knit a Koolhaas for Snowboarder, so the second one should be pretty quick, right?

As for some of the others... take another look. Frog or finish. Your choice. But I don't think this looks all that bad!

I've got 7 WIPs (not gonna call them UFOs) going at the moment. After all the christmas knitting for other people, some projects started before christmas are now getting picked back up, and I'm also freely indulging in cast-on-itis - it helps greatly knowing that if I don't finish any of them before tomorrow night, all the yardage will count for Stashdown!

That, and we've got Ravelympics coming up - WIP wrestling here we come!

This is a good start. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

And that button hole you don't like?... a large button will cover it up and you'll never think about it again. . .

How about gifting some of those projects to knitters who would enjoy finishing them?

I actually unraveled some projects that were almost done!!!! I just knew in my heart that I'd never finish them...

GOOD LUCK!

PS. I may have to hold you responsible for an unfortunate spending frenzy I just had a LUSH online....

Yikes. Christmas knitting really threw off my other WIPs - I think leaving me with 5-ish? Full excavation of the cedar chest would be in order to capture them all! I have big plans for 2009 though - I've gotta shape up, fess up, finish these things so I can start new ones (maybe only one or two at a time this year...).

I'm sorry... Did you say something? I'm too busy trying to find a new cowl pattern to cast on today and finish before midnight tomorrow...

Maybe 2010 will arrive and make me accountable. Actually, all of my WIPs are on Ravelry, except for one secret which the intended found via Flickr anyway...

Off the top of my head, I can think of

UFO's 2 pair of socks, 3 sweaters, 1 scarf and 2 afghans.

WIP: my section of a group prayer shawl project, 1 legwarmer, 1 glove/mitten, sock yarn blankie, 1 pr of mindess socks.
Now that Christmas is over, I need to move 1 sweater back to WIP before my Mom disowns me!!

I have 5 according to Ravelry. :) I thought I wanted to knit sweaters though, and it seems that I really just don't. Socks and shawlettes are good for me.
I just received my new Signature Circs in size 5 and they are FAB!

I really thought I had the UFO thing under control until I started thinking about it. Ummm...... I think I have 15 :-( Time to so some serious finish or frog evaluating :-)

TopazGirl said...

Hi Carrie! I've been looking over my own UFO situation the past week or so, and I have 12. One is a blanket (or will be when it grows up!), but I don't really count that as a UFO, it's more on an ongoing project, perfect for when i have no mental bandwidth for anything else. I should definitely get in on the UFO Smackdown action to tame my 2 sweaters, 3 pairs of socks, 1 hat, 3 bags, 1 shawl and 1 pair of slippers. :) Happy New Year!!

TopazGirl said...

Oh, and I like browncurls' assessment - they're just WIPs, not UFOs...I think they have to pass the 1 year mark of being unfinished before they qualify for true UFO status. If that's the case, then I only have 1, but a few of the others will move into that category if not completed in the next month or so. :)

Ummmm, I don't know how many. They're not on Ravelry, so they don't exist. (I sense a kindred spirit!)

I love the yarn for your February Lady. Frog back, and then get on with it! It will be gorgeous.

That's going to be one heck of a gorgeous FLS!! Beautiful shades of blue.

Your WIP pile looks pretty reasonable compared to mine. I need to get crackin'!

weezalana said...

Well what's the point of having all those cute project bags *jealous!* if you don't fill them up with WIPs? ;)

Knitting Kris said...

I wouldn't want to count my UFO's. I frogged some when I was getting ready for Christmas knitting. Now, I'm languishing on one scarf, and then I'm knitting for me! Happy New Year!

Manda said...

I just listed all my WIPs/UFOs, and I have TWENTY-FIVE. 25!! Gah!

Caffeine Girl said...

You are so brave to go public with your UFOs. I'm afraid I might have more than 10!

sam said...

Umm.. more than 9. That's all I'm saying.
