I named these socks after my great-aunt Cotty. When I first learned to knit she requested just one thing... a pink lace cashmere scarf. She loved all things lace and cashmere! She passed away two years ago, before I had truly fallen for both sock knitting and cashmere.
I think she would have loved these, and would have requested a pair in pink for her birthday in May.
The Plucky Knitter MCN Sport, colorway Early Light
Now, as most of you know, as much as I love the merino cashmere nylon sock yarns lately, my heart truly belongs to Socks that Rock. My goal with these socks were to design a pattern that worked well with both semi-solid yarns and variegated yarns. I think I worked it out!
Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock mediumweight
shown in one of my favorite colorways from Camp Knittyhaha
Beached
Pattern: Cotty
Notes: Instructions are written for a cuff-down sock. However, they can easily be modified to a toe-up pattern. Sizes are provided for either a sport/dk weight yarn or a fingering weight yarn.
Yarn: 250 yards of sport/dk weight yarn is enough for up to a women’s size 8 ½ -9 shoe size. There was approximately 1 yard of yarn leftover. If knitting for a longer sock, you will need either a second skein, or modify the pattern by knitting a shorter cuff (e.g., 5” instead of 6”). Shown in The Plucky Knitter Merino Cashmere Nylon Sport, 250 yards/skein; 1 skein colorway Early Light for sport size; or 350 yards of fingering weight yarn. Shown in BMFA Socks that Rock mediumweight, 380 yards/skein; 1 skein colorway Beached for fingering size.
Needles: Size US 3 (3.25mm) or size to obtain gauge for sport size; Size US 1.5 (2.5mm) or size to obtain gauge for fingering size
Gauge: 24 sts = 4” over st st for sport size or 28 sts = 4” over st st for fingering size
Size: adult women’s average/medium
Finished measurements: 8” foot circumference; 6” approximate leg length

Lovely sock! Congrats on the pattern.
Lovely sock! What a great tribute to your great Aunt! I'm sure she would be very proud!!
I love them! Soon, when I finish this endless blanket, I will knit socks again!
Those are so pretty! Just enough lace to make them interesting, but plenty of stockinette to show off the yarn. Great work.
Very pretty!
Hey - you know about the Namaste Bag sale at woolgirl? Thought you did...
Great design!! And what a wonderful way to remember your great aunt!
*click click click* YES!
Very beautiful! In both the semi solid and variegated. And I think I have enough leftover in Watermelon Tourmaline to give it a shot.
I love your new socks--what a lovely pattern. They look great in both yarns. Congratulations!
I got my copy! Woo hoo! It's a beautiful pattern, Carrie. Well done.
Love them! It could be said that I, too, am a bit partial to the STR, hehehe. These are definitely going on my short list of things to immediately knit.
Wow -these are lovely! Nice work!
Nice sock design - it really would show off the nicer sock yarns.
Fab socks, congrats on another pattern! :)

Great socks! I'm always looking for a nice pattern for handpainted yarn, since I own so much of it!
Congratulations on your first sock design! It's truly lovely. I love that it's meant for a heavier weight sock. KAL anyone?
Love them! Both versions.
Very pretty! Great pattern!
I can't believe it! A dear friend of mine in New York bought me "Beached" from Socks That Rock and I have been wondering what pattern to knit them into in order to show them off ... these are just what I was looking for! Off to buy the pattern ... Nicola, UK
