Thuja-inspired Fingerless Gloves

Thuja-Inspired Fingerless Gloves

Pattern: Thuja-Inspired Fingerless Gloves

Yarn: Socks that Rock heavyweight, color January One (note: I still have 2/3 of the skein left so I'm hoping to squeeze out a women's size of Thuja socks to match)

Needles: size 5 (I used magic loop, but could also use DPNs)

Gauge: 6 stitches/ 8 rows = 1 inch in pattern

Finished Measurements: for large size, cuff circumference 7.25 inches (unstretched); length 7.5 inches

How to Make Your Own: Cast on either 36 (S), 40 (M), or 44(L) stitches. I cast on 44 and would say my gloves are a bit loose. My next pair I would cast on 40. Follow the stitch pattern for Thuja (thank you Knitty for being free!!). I started with a 1 x 1 rib cuff for 1", then followed the pattern for approximately 6 inches (you can make this as long or as short as you want depending on your preference and if you are trying to get a pair of socks out of the skein or using up leftover yarn). Then, to prepare for thumb, use waste yarn and knit 8 stitches at the beginning of the round. Slip those 8 knit stitches back onto the needle and knit again using the working yarn. Continue in pattern for approximately 12 more rows (or until desired length). Bind off. ETA: I bound off a bit tightly on one glove so it did not roll. However, on the second, I bound off loosely and that glove does roll back a bit. Some people have modified pattern by either binding off in pattern, or knitting a few rows of 1 x 1 ribbing and then binding off.

(Thumb) Go back to the stitches on the waste yarn. Carefully remove the waste yarn and place the 8 stitches below on a DPN and 7 stitches above on a DPN. Attach the yarn and knit the 8 stitches. Pick up 3 additional stitches in the gap between the row above and below. Knit across the 7 stitches and then pick up 2 additional stitches in the gap on the other side (20 stitches total). Join and continue working in pattern for six additional rows. Bind off loosely. Make another one to match :)

Happy Knitting!

Well first of all, excellent socks there!! I've knit that pattern 2 times and love it still! Which brings me to the fingerless gloves...awesome! I've been looking for a pattern for a set and haven't been happy with one...until now! Thanks! :)

Oooo, thanks for the pattern. I've been wanting to make the Endpaper Mitts, but I know I wouldn't get them finished before spring. Yours look like they'd knit up much faster.

The socks are gorgeous. Stormy Weather knits up really nicely.
And your mitts are GORGEOUS. They are just a day off being disco birthday mitts :-)
oh, why do I live in Florida?
Sigh.

Lovely socks and lovely mitts! And I am seriously, seriously jealous that you got to hit their barn sale. Even more so after I clicked through to your sale post. I swoon at the sight of all that STR!

This is such a great pattern! And I *LOVE* the thumb (once I got the hang of it).

I created a simple photo tutorial to help explain what "use waste yarn and knit 8 stitches at the beginning of the round" means --- for some reason I did NOT understand this at first glance. But now? I am so using this for my thumb holes from now on!

Here is the tutorial!

Thank you!
